Sometimes it just happens: Suddenly, the app smears, and your Apple tablet or smartphone simply no longer reacts to your input. Then the only thing left to do is to reset the iPhone or iPad. It forces the smartphone or tablet to restart without losing any data.

An iOS system can hang up for many reasons: An app crashes and triggers several malfunctions. A usual restart is no longer possible. In this case, a forced, complete restart helps: the iPad reset or iPhone reset. Or, for inexplicable reasons, the memory is full, which sets off a chain reaction – until the iPhone or iPad finally stops responding.

Don’t confuse iPad reset or iPhone reset with factory reset – this is another process that wipes out all data. Fortunately, no personal data is lost during a normal reset. It just takes a little longer than a normal restart and frees up memory for new processes.

iPad Reset With and Without Home Button

Does your iPad still have the home button? We are talking about the circular button in the center below the screen. Some newer models, such as the iPad Pro (with a contract), no longer have this button. If your iPad still has this button, the iPad reset works like this: Hold down the home button of your tablet and the standby button at the top at the same time until the tablet restarts.

There is no longer a home button if you have a newer iPad like the Pro models or the iPad Air 2020. Here the whole thing works as follows:

  • Briefly press the volume up button once
  • Then press the volume down button briefly
  • Then press and hold the standby button until the iPad restarts

From iPhone 8: So You Force a Restart

With the iPhone, the principle is the same: If your iPhone still has a home button, press and hold the standby and home buttons at the same time for several seconds. When the iPhone restarts, let go.

Apple has changed the critical combination due to the missing key in all newer iPhones without a home button, including the iPhone 13 (here with a contract). Here the soft reset works like an iPad reset:

  • First, briefly press the volume up button,
  • Then immediately press the volume down button.
  • Immediately afterward, hold down the side button (also known as the power button) until the Apple logo appears on display.

That is To Be Observed.

Depending on the device and configuration, it can take up to ten seconds before the screen goes black and a restart is initiated. If the shutdown screen appears during the process, ignore it. Wait until the Apple logo can be seen on display and only then release the button.

You have now performed a soft reset. iOS was restarted, and the memory was emptied. Previously opened apps have been closed during the process. Everything else, including your data and apps, stays on the phone. To be prepared for any hardship cases in which it may be necessary to carry out a hard reset and reset to the factory settings, we recommend: Regularly creating backups in the iCloud to restore any data believed to have been lost due to a defect.

Summary

  • If the iPhone or iPad has hung up and the device no longer reacts, an iPad reset or iPhone reset can help.
  • During this process, the device is wholly restarted – usually, there is no data loss.
  • Forces the restart on older models of iPad and iPhone by pressing the home and standby buttons at the same time and holding them down for about ten seconds
  • Instead, you reset all newer models up to the iPhone 13 by pressing louder and quieter and holding down the side button.
  • With both the new and old approaches, don’t release the buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

In 2021 Apple released four new iPhones. We compare the two cheapest with each other: iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 mini. What are the differences, and what do the two Apple phones have in common? Here you can find out.

iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini? If you, too, are faced with this decision, you are exactly right in this comparison. We compare the two Apple phones in all essential areas: the price to the size difference and the cameras to the battery.

Price: iPhone 13 Mini Cheaper

The iPhone 13 mini (with a contract) is the cheapest new Apple cell phone in 2021. You can get it for 799 euros. And unlike the previous model, you already get 128 GB of storage in the entry-level configuration. That’s enough to regularly save photos, videos, films and music on your smartphone. The storage space is also the only thing that distinguishes the individual configurations from one another. You can also choose between 256 GB and 512 GB. The same applies to the iPhone 13, which is 100 euros more expensive in each case. Here you can see an overview of the prices:

  • iPhone 13 mini: 799 euros (128 GB), 919 euros (256 GB), 1149 euros (512 GB)
  • iPhone 13: 899 euros (128 GB), 1019 euros (256 GB), 1249 euros (512 GB)

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 Mini In Size Comparison

The most crucial difference between iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini is size. As the name suggests, the mini will be the smallest Apple cell phone in 2021. With a screen diagonal of 5.4 inches, it is also the most compact current premium smartphone you can currently buy. Almost all devices in this segment are well over 6 inches.

The 6.1-inch iPhone 13 is also one of the handier representatives. But back to the comparison of the iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 mini – the exact housing dimensions make the difference in size clear:

  • iPhone 13 mini: 131.5mm (H) x 64.2mm (W) x 7.65mm (D)
  • iPhone 13: 146.7mm (H) x 71.5mm (W) x 7.65mm (D)

As you can see, the iPhone 13 is significantly higher and more comprehensive than the iPhone 12 mini. However, both devices are 7.65 mm thick or deep. The larger housing naturally also affects the weight – the compact model is noticeably lighter:

  • iPhone 13 mini: 140 grams
  • iPhone 13: 173 grams

Display: Size Is The Only Difference

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 mini – or large versus small. That is, of course, also the motto for the display. Because the diagonal already mentioned determines how big the screen is: 6.1 inches for the standard model, 5.4 inches for the iPhone 13 mini. The latter is not as small as it sounds. Although the device is much more compact than the iPhone SE (2020), you get a lot of screen space here. The reason for this is the narrow display bezels which, however, also characterize the iPhone 13.

All this means: You have to decide whether maximum handiness or the larger display is more important to you. There is no difference in the quality of the screen. In both cases, you get a Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology and an excellent display in every respect. You only have to do without 120 Hz or ProMotion: The high refresh rate for even smoother animations is reserved for the iPhone 13 Pro (here with a contract) and Pro Max.

Same Camera For iPhone 13 And iPhone 13 Mini

The camera comparison between iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini is brief. Because both Apple phones have precisely the same camera. The comparison with the iPhone 12 mini is far more interesting at this point. Because a lot has happened compared to this. Thanks to the larger sensor, the photo quality has noticeably improved, in the dark even considerably.

In addition, there is a new cinema mode that automatically focuses on people in videos and blurs the background. Here you can see an overview of the dual cameras of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini:

  • 12 MP primary lens: f / 1.6, 26 mm, 1.7 µm, dual pixel PDAF, sensor-shift OIS
  • 12 MP ultra-wide-angle: f / 2.4, 13 mm, 120-degree field of view

Performance Identical

iPhone 13 vs iPhone 13 mini in performance comparison: There is no difference here either with the camera. According to Apple, both devices are powered by an A15 Bionic Chip, by far the fastest smartphone chipset on the market. Only Apple’s Pro models offer a bit more performance, as the GPU on the A15 has one more core here. In practice, however, that should seldom make a difference. Both iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are blazingly fast. You don’t need more power.

Battery: iPhone 13 Is More Durable

For a change, let’s come back to an area where there is a difference between iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini – the battery. The standard model is more significant and, therefore, more durable. Apple does not officially state the exact battery capacity. According to reliable reports, however, it turns out as follows:

  • iPhone 13 mini: 2438 mAh
  • iPhone 13: 3240 mAh

A considerable difference is also noticeable in practice. Apple does not deny this and specifies a two-hour longer video playback time for the iPhone 13 (19 hours vs 17 hours). In this discipline, however, both devices should last two hours longer than their respective predecessor models. That means: The iPhone 13 mini is about as durable as the iPhone 12.

Conclusion: iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 13 Mini

What conclusions can be drawn from this comparison between iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini? There is no winner because it is the same device – just in different sizes. When choosing between the two mobile phones, you should primarily ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is handiness or a large display more critical to you?
  • What is the priority of the battery life for you?
  • Are you ready to spend 100 euros more on the iPhone 13?

Whether the iPhone 13 mini or the iPhone 13 is the better choice depends on these questions. You know the answers to these questions better than we do. However, one thing is sure: Whatever you decide, you will get one of the best smartphones in 2021.

At Apple’s big unveiling party this year, there were largely no surprises. Perhaps the lack of the next AirPods was only a negative surprise. According to Leaks, they should be almost finished, but Apple decided against the presentation. Why?

That we will get a refreshed version of the AirPods shortly seems practically certain. Corresponding rumors and leaks have been around for a long time on the Internet, and now there is even specific technical information. But of course, without an official introduction from Apple, we can’t be entirely sure. However, according to the latest reports, production has already started, and Apple has already received the first batches. But there are still just not enough headphones.

Production Is In Full Swing.

This still quite low production volume is said to have been the reason for the lack of an announcement at the iPhone event. At the moment, however, it can be assumed that sales will start this year. Like their predecessors, the Airpods 3 will probably be real bestsellers, which is why Apple probably needs certain reserves. In general, Apple is known for wanting to avoid long delivery times for customers. This year, due to the ongoing shortage of chips, this is particularly difficult.

There were also significant delivery bottlenecks with the initial launch of the AirPods Pro, which even dragged themselves into the critical Christmas business. Such a large crowd is a strong sign for the company, but the whole thing is a bit annoying for the customer. If you are still looking for a PS 5, you can certainly tell a song about it.

AirPods In Pro Guise

Many details of the AirPods 3 seem to have leaked in the meantime. For example, there were even some first hands-on pictures that probably showed early production models. The design of the new AirPods is based on their pro brothers. However, the carrying form remains open and therefore without a silicone plug at the end. This probably means that active noise cancellation is also missing, as this does not work particularly well with an open fit.

The unveiling of the AirPods 3 should possibly take place next month. Here, Apple is considering an event for new Macs, at which the company could also introduce a few more devices. But as always, this information is kept under lock and key at Apple until shortly before publication, and we must be surprised.

Mobile gaming is larger than ever. Due in part to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, more people have been playing on their phones than ever before. Research by IDC and LoopMe even found that 6 percent of all mobile gamers surveyed in 2021 had not played mobile games before the pandemic hit. More people are exploring gaming on their phones – to the point that they may even be considering investing in phones specifically designed for gaming on the go.

Gaming smartphones come equipped with specialized features: both hardware and software that optimize the gaming experience. Chief among them are powerful chipsets and RAM capacities that rival even mid-range PCs. Gaming phones have at least 8GB of RAM, with some high-spec ones having up to 18GB. Designed for long gaming sessions, these specialized smartphones also have bigger batteries and wider screens, making them a bit larger and heavier than the typical smartphone.

Gaming phones aren’t just bulkier than other phones – they also tend to cost significantly more. Hence, getting a gaming smartphone is an investment in its own right, and should be considered carefully.

The decision to buy a smartphone specifically designed for gaming will depend largely on what games you want to play. Older phones may struggle to run standalone apps like Call of Duty Mobile, or graphics-intensive games like ARK: Survival Evolved. These games, which trace their origins to PC and console, can make some mid-range devices struggle. If you plan to play games like these, or play games like Mobile Legends competitively, then you may want to consider investing in a gaming smartphone to be able to up the graphical quality of your games.

However, if you’re going to be playing casually, this may not be necessary. Despite featuring high-end graphics and sophisticated animations, the games on Gala Spins like Big Banker, Super Lion, and Poseidon: Ancient Fortunes can be played through any modern smartphone’s internet browser. This is because many of today’s games are made through HTML5, which allows seamless playability across different platforms.

The same can be said for gamers who just want a taste of nostalgia. The modern smartphone is much more powerful than gaming consoles from 15 to 20 years back, and you can download emulators from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store to be able to run games from the era of the PlayStation 1, or even the Game Boy Advance. If this is the type of gaming experience you’re after, a gaming smartphone won’t be a necessary upgrade.

It’s also important to consider that gaming smartphones often have to compromise on some features to be able to up the gaming experience: most gaming smartphones will have poor cameras, be less easily available, and may not get as many software updates. What’s more, if you’re an iOS user, you’re fresh out of luck, as Apple has not made any iPhones specifically for gaming.

All in all, your typical smartphone should be enough for some light mobile gaming. It’s when you start to get really serious with your gaming and decide to play competitively that a gaming smartphone becomes a more obvious choice.

The new Homepod mini from Apple, a high-tech sock with a warming function, and a mini drone that doesn’t require a driver’s license: new technology in check.

Mini 2 drone from DJI

Legislators have set some hurdles for drone pilots before conquering the skies. Not too high, not too far, not over houses, not over people, not in nature, not near major roads, not without insurance or license plates – there are a lot of prohibitions to be observed. That won’t get much better by December 31st if the new EU drone regulation takes effect. But at least one rule will be spared pilots of the new Mini 2 from DJI: You don’t have to get a drone driver’s license. Like its predecessor, the aircraft falls below the weight limit of 250 grams, but it is anything but meager equipment.

In October 2019, the tech company DJI presented the previous version. The company boss, it is rumored, should not have been satisfied with the performance of the small drone. That is why the Mini 2 follows after a very short time. With dimensions of 14 by eight centimeters, the device is as compact as a smartphone when folded and fits in any pocket. It measures six centimeters in height. The drone now uses a remote control with the OcuSync system from DJI, which also comes with the larger Mavic Air 2. The radio connection is very stable. Thanks to OcuSync, the Mini 2 has a range of six kilometers in Europe and even ten kilometers in the USA. Even in this country, however, the pilot must have visual contact with his drone at all times – which requires two eagle eyes with the small Mini. Next, a big change from its predecessor: the camera. The Mini 2 now records videos in high-resolution 4K quality. The images are razor-sharp. Thanks to the gimbal and GPS stabilization, recordings hardly shake even in strong winds.

All of this is controlled via the smartphone, which is clipped into the remote control. The DJI Fly app allows some automatic video and picture modes for the Mini 2. Bargain hunters take a look at the Mini anyway. With the alternative Litchi app, the predecessor has more functions than the new model, such as tracking objects, which otherwise only large drones can do. But the Mini 2 is also a fine gadget in the Fly More Combo for a little more than 500 euros with accessories such as batteries or a carrying case.

Homepod mini from Apple

Pretty cheeky, the little one: only as big as a grapefruit, but a bass, well, almost like a big one. Apple’s network loudspeaker Homepod is of course not just a replacement for kitchen radios or clock radios. It also wants to be a control center for the networked home à la Apple.

The setup couldn’t be easier: plug in the power cord, wait for the sound, then point the iPhone towards it – done. The iPhone, of course. Because the Apple universe is largely sealed off. Whoever wishes to be admitted has to submit to it. But what then also means that devices are usually easy to put into operation and use. So here too.

The Homepod has no buttons, but a touch-sensitive surface. If music is playing, it can be stopped with a tap, there are also sensor surfaces for increasing and decreasing the volume. Actually, however, the device is of course intended to be controlled with voice commands. Apple emphasizes that the commands for evaluation in the cloud are encrypted, not linked to the user’s Apple ID, and not passed on to advertising companies.

All voice commands are introduced with the code word “Hey Siri”. A new function for this is called intercom. This means that messages can be sent quickly from one device to another, and above all, the entire family – who of course must have all Apple devices – can be reached at once, motto: “We’re going now folks”. Very nice for presentations, in practice, it is probably rather irrelevant to annoying.

Apple’s assistant Siri, who recently fell behind the competition from Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant, has crammed specialist knowledge and now has an answer to more questions. You still have to groove yourself a bit and learn which command to use to get what you want. It doesn’t always work either. Siri can play Beethoven’s fifth symphony, even if only the first movement, but claims she doesn’t have the sixth in her program. Of course, Apple Music has many different recordings.

Apple Watch

It is exactly the right thing for hypochondriacs: Apple’s latest wristwatch can now also measure the oxygen content of the blood, in addition to detecting atrial fibrillation using a simple EKG. Heart rate measurement? Sure, anyway. Counting steps? Anyway. Noise measurement? Is in.

There is a real variety of functions that such a computer in a watch case can fulfill. Most of them, however, already brought the previous model with it. So the jump from the fifth version to the sixth is not really big. The processor runs faster and is more efficient, which is why the constantly lit clock display can now be a little brighter and therefore easier to read.

What has unfortunately remained: the short running time. Even with moderate use, the battery is empty after a day and a half at the latest. This is worse than with a cell phone because you need a special cable for inductive charging to charge. Inductive charging pads also do not work, not even the new inductive fast-charging adapter just introduced by Apple.

Picking the right one from the multitude of app symbols is not particularly easy, some symbols are very similar. The operation with the crown (rotatable and pushable), touch and the on-off button cannot exactly be described as intuitive. But a watch is small and the functions are many.

Some of the functions can only be set using a smartphone, which must be from Apple. The watch cannot be operated with Android devices. With a (newer) iPhone, however, it works very easily. Competitors should take a look at this.

Because the new top model is quite expensive – the cheapest model costs just under 420 euros, the most expensive just under 810 euros – version three remains available, it starts at 213 euros. In addition, a new model was presented, the Apple Watch SE. It has a faster inner workings than the three-way model. Plus, someone with an iPhone can set up the watch for someone else.

iPad with pen

Anyone who has a market share of almost 60 percent in a product category must have done something right. Just like Apple with its iPad. No other manufacturer achieves such dominance, pursuer Samsung is quite behind with 22 percent, not to mention the others in the competition. At best, they come to medium single-digit values, most of them have even less market share (figures from the market research company Statcounter).

This is mainly due to the fact that Google is not particularly eager to adopt its Android mobile operating system better to the requirements of tablets. There is still a system for smartphones and tablets. At Apple, on the other hand, the paths have separated, for the tablets, the group is developing its own operating system, iPadOS. Overall, Apple can therefore offer the rounder, more balanced package – as always, of course, at a higher price.

The eighth-generation iPad starts comparatively inexpensively at 370 euros, but if you want 128 gigabytes instead of 32 gigabytes of memory, which is far too measly, you will find almost a hundred more going on. An LTE module costs about 130 euros more. And if you want to use the device with a pen, you have to budget another 100 euros more. That puts you at around 700 euros – there are decent laptops for that. And the user still does not have a protective cover, which is highly recommended if you often want to take the iPad with you somewhere.

There’s not much to complain about the device itself, it doesn’t look quite as valuable as the iPads with the addition of pro, but they are in a completely different league in terms of price. The 26-centimeter screen is bright and sharp, the device responds well to pen inputs, but artistically ambitious users should look at the Pro devices, which use the second generation pen, which enables even finer drawing.

The inner workings have been improved as usual compared to the predecessor, the main chip calculates faster and also includes the Neural Engine, a special processor for machine learning. This helps, for example, with image processing tasks.

Overall, iPad number eight is successful, you only have to spend more if you need the better pen of the pro models or considerably more computing power. But then it gets more expensive.

Will Apple’s smart glasses finally appear in 2021? The new year has barely started, there are already speculations about the devices that Cupertino will bring us in the next few months. There have been numerous rumors about many of the supposedly planned gadgets in the past.

The renowned Apple analysts have commented on the possible Apple products for 2021. According to experts, the so-called “AirTags” will finally appear this year. These are presumably small tags that you can attach to your personal items. If these are lost, you can locate the AirTags using the “Find” feature that you know from the iPhone.

The rumors about the AirTags go back to 2019. Most recently, it was assumed that Apple would present the trailer at the end of 2020. This did not happen – it should finally be that time in 2021.

Are the data glasses finally coming?

Experts also predict an “augmented reality device” for 2021. Since the analyst does not describe what this is all about, we can only speculate. But it is quite likely that the long-awaited “Apple Glass” is meant.

In the summer of 2020, it was said that you can give someone a different background with Apple Glass. The conference tool Zoom offers a comparable feature, but you can only change the background on your own. With Apple’s smart glasses you could “beam” yourself to any area – in 3D. The data glasses were also expected by the end of 2020.

AirPods, iPad Pro, and Macs

The Apple lineup for 2021 should also include new AirPods. In December, Apple caused a sensation in this area, but with the expensive AirPods Max over-ear headphones. The new AirPods Pro, on the other hand, are likely to be “classic” in-ears, but they could come in two different sizes.

iPhone 13: Does Apple have the next design hammer ready?

According to Tech Reviews Corner, other devices for 2021 are likely to be new Macs with Apple Silicon and mini LEDs. And a new iPad Pro with a 12.9-inch display is also said to be on the release schedule. It almost goes without saying that the iPhone 13 awaits us in autumn 2021, which, unlike its predecessor, is due to appear again in September.

In recent months, there have been a lot of rumors about the delay in the launch of the iPhone 12. The COVID-19 crisis has caused serious damage to the smartphone market due to problems caused by the states of confinement that have marked the different countries involved in the manufacture of these, causing the supply chains to suffer.

There have been many analysts and leakers who had opted for the delay in the launch of the new ones. The company’s Chief Financial Officer, Luca Maestri, explained that the iPhone 12 will be delayed compared to previous years. , something that has finally been confirmed by Apple itself, in an unprecedented fact. So far, we have experienced lag for some specific models, but we have never experienced lag for the entire model.

Launch delay

As we said, in recent months, we have been insisting on the postponement of the launch of the iPhone 12. It is inevitable that all experts in the Apple environment run the risk of postponing the launch of the terminal. And now it has been Apple’s CFO, Luca Maestri, who has confirmed that delay. His words have caught everyone’s attention ” This year, we plan that the supply will be available a few weeks later ” which confirms the delay in the launch of the iPhone 12 as had been suspected during all these months.

Of course, we are only talking about the launch, which marks the arrival of the iPhone 12 in stores, but it does not seem that the presentation itself, the Keynote, which takes place every year in the first or second week of September in Cupertino, is canceled.

It is not the first time that the iPhone will be available later, the iPhone XRs hit stores more than a month after the launch of the presentation. The difference, in this case, is that the lag seems to extend to the entire range of the iPhone 12.

So, in September, we will know all the information that the new iPhone 12 provides us. How much can we buy in a few weeks? No one can be sure, but it is expected to be postponed until October, and the worst-case scenario is to postpone it until November, although this is unlikely.

What do we expect from the iPhone 12?

This year the new iPhone will arrive loaded with transcendent news, because they will be the first to have 5G connectivity, which, as you know, is already a standard in most Android phones that reach the market. A major design change is also expected, especially on its back and edges, which will be quite similar to those of the classic iPhone 4, with a sharper and more square look.

There will also be significant improvements to the camera. The more advanced models will feature the same LiDAR scanner that the iPads Pro launched this past spring. And finally, there will be four new iPhone 12s, not three, because there will be an iPhone 12 Max, the largest version of the less advanced iPhone. Phones that will have to wait longer than usual.
