What Are Google Ads?

If you want to make money on the Internet, you should definitely know Google Ads. Because Google Ads, which was also known in the past as Google AdWords, is the advertising program of Google, the largest search engine in the world. Every user of the Internet almost inevitably comes across the relevant ads, even if they use another search engine. The reason: Google Ads offers the option that the ads also appear on other websites. However, there are different networks.

On the one hand, there is the so-called search network, in which the ads can be booked. Google occupies an outstanding position here due to its high market share. There are also other websites on which you can place your advertising. These pages can be private pages as well as large portals that are referred to as the display advertising network. If the operators want to allow the display of advertisements, they only have to participate in the AdSense program.

This is how Google Ads was created

Google announced on October 23, 2000, that the Google AdWords service would be started, two years after the company Google inc. was founded. Google Ads started in beta with around 350 advertisers. However, Google has always been heavily criticized. Among other things, because the payment terms for the integration of AdWords AP in their own applications were perceived as too complicated by many users after this option became chargeable in 2006.

From the start, the advertising spaces were auctioned off and pay-per-click billed. However, the application was continuously expanded in the following years. How the ad was positioned from 2008 also depended, among other things, on the loading time. After Google Ads was expanded to YouTube in 2012, users were also able to add audiovisual content to their advertising. The renaming of Google AdWords to Google Ads took place in 2018 for a good reason: Because words now only make up a small part of the advertising message.

However, the functions were further refined. It is now possible to place a third heading in the ad and add a second description. This increases the chance that users will notice the ad.

The functions of Google Ads

The most important element in Google Ads is the keywords. If you want to advertise, you can use the keywords to determine in advance which thematically suitable pages and search terms the ad should appear on. The background: The scatter losses should be reduced to a minimum.
